Modern freight recording includes the optimisation of storage and shipping. Rising costs for transport fuel make information on the weight and dimensions of packages increasingly important.

The VGM volume and weight measuring system is used to determine the weight and dimensions of packages. A high-quality light grid system ensures exact parameterisation. This scans the packages and determines the corresponding volume and the resulting volume weight during weighing. The determined data (volume - weight - volume weight) simplify transport planning and improve the spatial utilisation of transport vehicles. At the same time, packaging, storage and shipping planning can be optimised. A modular system makes it easy to realise different sizes. Conveyor belts or roller conveyors can be used as means of transport. The recorded data can be transferred to a higher-level EDP system.

Volume weight

Dimensional weight (or volume weight) is a practical measure used to assess the cost of a shipment.
The dimensional weight formula was introduced to calculate the actual cargo space required for goods that are light but bulky.
The calculation of the volumetric weight is based on the dimensions of a consignment:
(length x width x height in cm) / "service_provider_dependent_divisor" = volumetric weight in kg.
The volumetric weight of the consignment is compared with the actual mass determined with a scale (weighing weight). The higher of the two values is decisive for the freight rate.
