Product information "Freight measurement Linecube - Record parcels & master data"
Dynamic measurement of freight
The Linecube® volume and weight measuring system is used to determine the weight and dimensions of packages. A high-quality Line Laser 3D Camera scans the packages contactlessly and measures their length, width, height, as well as the volume. At the same time, the packages are weighed on a conveyor belt with an integrated scale. From these measurements, the resulting dimensional weight can be calculated. These data (L × W × H) simplify transport planning and optimize the spatial utilization of transport vehicles. In addition, packaging, storage, and shipping processes can be made more efficient.
Conveyor belts with an integrated scale are used as the transport medium. By default, the transport speed is approximately 0.35 m/s. This makes the measuring and weighing process quick and efficient, making it ideal for companies with medium to high shipping volumes. Optionally, each package can be documented by photo.
Data transfer
The system can be connected to higher-level IT systems via both WLAN and an Ethernet interface. The determined volume and weight data can, for example, be saved in a CSV file, transferred to an SQL database, or provided via a REST interface (via a POST request to a REST web service).

Dimensional Weight
The dimensional weight (also known as volume weight) is a practical measure to assess the cost of a shipment. The formula for dimensional weight was introduced to determine the actual space required by goods that are light but bulky. The dimensional weight is calculated based on the dimensions of a shipment:
(Length × Width × Height in cm) / (Carrier-specific divisor) = Dimensional weight in kg
The calculated dimensional weight is then compared with the actual measured weight. The higher of the two values determines the freight rate.
Example:
Package 1 | Package 2 |
---|---|
L × W × H = 20 cm × 30 cm × 40 cm, Weight = 6 kg | L × W × H = 20 cm × 30 cm × 40 cm, Weight = 2 kg |
Dimensional weight = (20 × 30 × 40) / 5000 = 4.8 kg | Dimensional weight = (20 × 30 × 40) / 5000 = 4.8 kg |
Calculated weight: 6 kg | Calculated weight: 4.8 kg |
