Lifecycle and Calibration of a Calibrated Scale

Calibration Scale

For applications requiring calibration, please order the calibration directly. Subsequent calibration is not possible!

When do you need a calibrated scale? As soon as you participate in transactions that require calibration. This includes, for example, the sale of goods by weight, the calculation of fees by weight, the production or control of pre-packaged goods, the weighing of vehicles, the determination of body weight for medical purposes, or the production or dosing of pharmaceuticals. Further information can be found in the Calibration Law.
What should be considered for calibration-capable scales? A calibration-capable scale loses its calibration capability if it is not calibrated by the manufacturer before shipment. Therefore, it is important to research before purchase whether the scale needs to be calibrated.
What are calibration-capable scales? Calibration-capable scales are not yet calibrated but meet the requirements to be calibrated.
What should be considered for calibrated scales?
With the entry into force of the new Measurement and Calibration Act on 01.01.2015, the user is required under § 32 MessEG to report new and/or renewed measuring devices within 6 weeks of commissioning.
The report must be made to the responsible calibration authority and must include
  1. the type of device,
  2. the manufacturer,
  3. the type designation,
  4. the year of marking, and
  5. the address of the user.
The calibration authorities have set up a reporting platform at www.eichamt.de, where the required data can be transmitted quickly and easily.
The following PDF document is from the Working Group on Measurement and Calibration and represents the current situation.
We are happy to assist you with any questions.
What are calibrated scales? Calibrated scales are measuring devices that are both capable of calibration and calibrated. The calibration is carried out directly at the factory by the initial calibration by the manufacturer. Recalibration by one of the German calibration offices is thus unproblematic, as all legal requirements are met.
