Weighing modules for proper load application on load cells

Load cells only work properly if they have been correctly installed. The load must be applied in such a way that it is evenly distributed on the cell. Weighing modules consist of a load cell that is equipped with the mechanical components necessary to achieve correct load distribution. Bending beam load cells in platform scales must for example be mounted on a load foot, as it is otherwise not possible to apply the load without a torque. Weighing module designs

Weighing modules facilitate the installation of load cells. A simple module with an S-shaped load cell for suspended weights might consist of a load cell with two eyelets or eye bolts attached to the top and the bottom of the load cell. This arrangement is suitable for hanging or hopper scales used to weigh relatively small loads. For heavier loads, the module must be of a much stronger construction. The preferred option would be a bending beam load cell where the load is applied through solid steel brackets and eye bolts. Platform and floor scales for heavy loads are normally equipped with shear beam load cells installed on a base plate. The load is applied from the top and through the copper socket which ensures that the load is evenly distributed onto the load cells.

Material quality requirements for weighing modules

Both the load cell and the materials from which the module is made must meet most stringent quality standards. Weighing modules are normally used in harsh industrial environments where they are exposed to dirt, humidity and extreme temperature fluctuations. That is why quality weighing modules are made from high-grade, stainless alloy steel. For the module to work properly and reliably, the steel components must not become deformed under load.
