What different tension sensors are there?
Depending on the specific area of application, the sensor has a different structure. Above all, varying material stresses for the individual nominal load ranges come into play here. The nominal load designates the maximum load that can be determined in the measurement applications.
Because each material has a different stress point, when purchasing a strain sensor you must consider the rated load you will be working with. Depending on the weighing range, the force sensor for the train is made of the following materials:
- Up to 1,000 kg with alloy steel - These sensors with a nominal load of 1000 kg are suitable, among other things, for determining the load in small lifting trucks when receiving goods. The alloyed steel is sufficient here to absorb high mechanical loads.
- Up to 1,000 kg stainless steel - the tensile strength of stainless steel can be up to 827 MPa (mechanical stress). Therefore, this steel alloy with nickel and chromium is also very suitable for use in tension sensors. The stainless steel is well suited for working in humid environments and at low temperatures – for example in the dosage.
- Up to 5,000 kg stainless steel, laser welded - the laser-welded stainless steel elements help to increase the rated load up to 5,000 kg. This makes these weighing components suitable for crane scales and in measurement and testing technology, among other things.
- Up to 5,000 kg alloy steel, laser welded - alloy steel with tension load bearing has a tensile strength of up to 1,882 MPa. This makes the material the right choice, especially for high weighing loads.
- Up to 75 kg alloy steel - even small loads can be precisely measured using our tensile force sensors.

How do draft sensors work?
For the measurement, the mechanical tensile load that is placed on the tensile sensor is determined. The train sensor records load data and converts it into an electronic signal. Targeted through-holes in the upper and lower area of the load cell can result in an optimal introduction of force in the direction of tension. This not only ensures that the measurement data is as precise as possible. This well thought-out geometry also ensures very good overload protection.
The tension sensors are strain gauge sensors. Strain gauges are used here. They offer a very large geometric variability. In addition, they work with an extremely high level of accuracy. This makes them ideal for measuring very small forces. For the measurement, the strain gauges are glued to a deformation body. When the tensile load is applied, the energy of the stretch marks is transferred to it and measured. An electrical signal is generated from these values.
Areas of application for tension sensors
Tension sensors are versatile. They allow you to determine precise measurement data in any work environment. The specific type of application can be individually tailored. Below are a number of application examples for tension sensors:
- Used on machines where idler or guide rollers are provided -; for example in the automotive industry.
- In combination with hoists - Cable pulls, ratchet pulls, balancers, hand winches, forehead pulleys, steel winches, rack and pinion threads
- In the hybrid scales conversion – automotive industry
- Force Measurement - Quality Control
- Dosage - Food production, automotive industry
- Crane scales - Scheduling, production preparation
- Measuring and testing technology - Material testing, industrial components, component production
- Hanging container scales - Dosing, weigh modules for tanks, for bulk goods
The tension sensors can also be used as force transducers and they can be calibrated in Newtons.
