WORKING PRINCIPLE OF BENDING BEAM LOAD CELL

Bending beam load cells are among the most popular load cells used in commercial weighing applications. The core component of a bending beam load cell is a metal spring element that is elastically deformed under load. When the load is removed, the spring element returns to its normal shape. This deformation or strain is picked up by strain gauges installed on the spring element and converted into an electrical signal. Bending beam load cells can be calibrated for grams, kilograms or tons.

APPLICATIONS OF BENDING BEAM LOAD CELL

Bending beam load cells are used in many different types of scales, such as dosing scales, overhead conveyor scales, conveyor scales and platform scales. In platform scales, we normally find multiple bending beam load cells connected in parallel. Bending beam load cells are extremely sturdy and reliable devices and therefore very suitable for use in harsh industrial environments.

TECHNICAL DATA

In bending beam load cells, the output current is normally calibrated (impedance-trimmed), so that multiple load cells can be connected in parallel without any further need for calibration. For the correct installation of a load cell, installation kits come in useful. These consist of metal parts encasing the actual bending beam load cell and are available for hanging scales, platform scales, etc. Bending beam load cells are available for a range of nominal loads. Prior to installing a load cell, check whether your scales need to be verifiable. If that is the case, the load cell must also be verifiable. Load cells come in different IP classes. For reliable operation under industrial conditions, we recommend minimum IP68 (protection from dust ingress, splash water and temporary immersion).
