The Digital Hanging Scale is Versatile
A small digital hanging scale up to e.g., 100 kg is usually handy and compact, making it excellent for use in the private sector as a fish scale, game scale, or luggage scale. The next larger category of hanging scales has a weighing range of up to e.g., 600 kg and is often used as an animal scale for weighing live animals. When it comes to heavy loads, it's called a crane scale or hook scale. These excel in industrial settings. They can easily be mounted on a trolley or crane via a hook. The load to be weighed is attached to the lower hook of the crane scale for weighing, and the scale immediately provides the corresponding results. They are very robust and perfectly suited for rough industrial use (commerce, food, transportation).
It's important that the weighing range fits. Thus, the expected maximum load should not exceed 2/3 of the maximum permissible rated load of the crane scale. For safety, almost every crane scale is "overdimensioned" (150% rated load). Nevertheless, dynamic loads can occur (e.g., due to crane lifting movement, wind, etc.), which can create forces leading to overload of the load cell. This can damage the scale and pose a significant safety risk. Therefore, the scale should be checked and maintained regularly (approximately every 3 months) for any signs of damage or wear.
Digital Hanging Scale as Lifter Scale
When a digital hanging scale is used in the medical field, it is often referred to as a lifter scale. These must comply with the EC Directive 93/42/EEC and the Medical Devices Act. A calibrated lifter scale can usually be installed relatively easily (e.g., through eyelets) into existing lifting systems. These scales are particularly used in hospitals, nursing homes, or home care services as portable personal scales.
Accessories and Equipment Variants of the Digital Hanging Scale
Most hanging scales have a backlit digital display. This enables easy reading of weight data even in suboptimal lighting conditions. Often, the upper and lower shackles are included in the scope of delivery but can also be ordered individually, depending on requirements. Special safety hooks are often offered as an option. The displays may have additional functions. Special memory functions archive the measurement results, or a "maximum weight" (which may sometimes differ from the currently displayed weight) is determined. This significantly increases the precision and safety of the measurement.
